According to a press release released on February 9, 2026 (local time), the online game platform combined with social network Roblox currently has 144 million active users worldwide, of which nearly half (more than 45%) have verified age through facial estimates or identity verification.
From January 2026, Roblox has required all users who want to access the communication feature to complete the age check process.
Roblox said the age-limited chat feature is designed so that users can only communicate with people of the same age group, in order to reduce the risk of exposure to inappropriate content.
The more users verify their age, the less we depend on self-declared information, thereby building a more appropriate experience for each age group," the company emphasized.
Roblox's internal data shows, among users who have completed age verification:
- 38% belong to the 13-17 age group.
- 35% under 13 years old.
- 27% aged 18 and over.
However, Roblox noted that these numbers only reflect the group of users who verified their age before January 31, 2026, and the rate may change as more and more users complete the authentication process.
According to this platform, more accurate age data will help Roblox personalize content, features and chat environments for each age group.
The move to tighten age control takes place in the context that Roblox is facing many lawsuits in the US, accusing the platform of not fully protecting young users from risks such as seduction, harassment and sensitive content.
Accurate age information helps us improve matching systems, improve the quality and relevance of conversations, which is the core element in Roblox's social experience," the company said.
To reduce errors in the verification process, Roblox has added a one-time reset option for users if the initial age check process encounters errors.
In addition, parents can adjust their children's age through the Parent's Control tool, to ensure that the information reflects the reality.
Roblox also said they continuously analyze user behavior to detect the imbalance between the declared age and how the platform is used.
If the system detects an account with behavior similar to a teenager or adult but declares it is a young child, users will be asked to verify the age again," Roblox informed.
The platform is also expanding the "Trusted Connections" feature, allowing users to chat with friends or relatives outside the age group, under parental supervision.
Roblox informed that in the near future, this feature will be deployed for users under 13 years old, helping children to communicate safely with parents and caregivers.
In addition, Roblox is testing new activity indicators in the chat framework, aiming to increase transparency about the age of participants, while maintaining strict safety standards.
