Intel is expected to announce detailed technical information about the new generation of Panther Lake laptop chips next Thursday (local time).
This is Intel's first product to be manufactured entirely using the 18A process, a next-generation chip manufacturing technology that the company has invested billions of dollars in developing, marking its efforts to regain its position against rivals such as AMD and TSMC.
Panther Lake is a high-end mobile processor designed for high-performance laptops, expected to launch in early 2026.
According to one source, this chip can save 30% of energy compared to the previous generation, while increasing the performance of center processing and graphics to 50% in some tasks.
This is considered a strategic card to help Intel regain the market share that it has lost in recent years.
Intel has recently held technical meetings and visits to the factory in Arizona for analysts and the press, presenting details about the Panther Lake microarchcture, includingCP core, GPU and multimedia processing engine.
Notably, this chip integrates a completely redesigned AI engine, optimized for the 18A process, which is the key to helping Intel compete with advanced chip manufacturers.
The company said the 18A process will be deployed at the Fab 52 factory in Arizona, starting in 2021 as part of a multi-billion-dollar global expansion plan under former CEO Pat Gelsinger.
Here, Intel uses a new semiconductor bulb design and more efficient power transmission methods, promising to improve chip performance and stability.
However, Intel has not yet announced actual output or the ratio of standard chips, although internal sources said that the success rate of manufacturing has increased from 5% to about 10% last summer.
Amid financial difficulties, Intel is under great pressure from investors.
In the second quarter of 2025, the company recorded a loss of 2.9 billion USD, and warned that it could temporarily suspend the 14A process if it could not find potential customers.
After CEO Lip-Bu Tan met with the US President and reached an agreement to receive 9.9% of the investment capital from softBank and Nvidia under the CHIPS Act, the company expected Panther Lake to become a symbol of recovery.
If successful, Panther Lake and the 18A process could mark an important turning point in Intel's reconstruction journey, bringing the company back to the high-tech race after many years of being behind Asian rivals.
