Frog bites eat close to the road and peoples homes
In Lam Thuy village, Vinh Dinh commune (Quang Tri province), a new landslide has just appeared, forming a large frog's jaw, eating close to the Xuan - Quy - Vinh inter-commune road. Many clusters of trees were pulled out into the middle of the river, and the landslide land was still leaking continuously, causing people to worry because the landslides showed no signs of stopping.
Mr. Vo Cong Trong - Head of Lam Thuy village said that before storm No. 10, this area had a slight landslide, but after heavy rain, the situation became serious. A very deep frog has appeared on the road, making it extremely dangerous to travel, he said.

Not only the traffic route, many households in Tra Tri Phu village are also living in fear of landslides that have eaten close to the yard, walls and auxiliary works. Some kitchens and warehouses were cracked and sunk.
According to Mr. Nguyen The Hau - Chairman of Vinh Dinh Commune People's Committee, the entire Vinh Dinh River section through Lam Thuy and Kinh Duy villages has had more than 300m of river banks eroded, many of which are deeply located on the asphalt road, creating large frog jaw.
"The landslide directly affected 12 households with 59 people, many locations were swept away by 2.6m. If not repaired promptly, the risk of damage will be huge" - Mr. Hau said.
Urgently review and propose the construction of dykes
Not only in Vinh Dinh commune, the situation of landslides on the Vinh Dinh river bank is spreading to many other communes. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vu - Chairman of the People's Committee of Trieu Binh commune said that landslides have appeared for many years but have now become more serious after storm No. 10.

In Van Hoa village, about 2km of the riverbank was eroded, of which 600m directly affected people's houses, threatening 15 households with 60 people. In addition, more than 1.5km of the commune's main traffic road and 50ha of planted area are also under threat. In Quang Dien village, a landslide about 500m long affected traffic routes, canals and production land of the two households.
Slide along Vinh Dinh River through the area has occurred since previous floods, some serious landslides, embankments are now safe, but the sections that have not been invested in are being strongly eroded. We recommend that we soon arrange funding to handle it completely" - Mr. Vu proposed.
Faced with serious landslides on the Vinh Dinh River and many other rivers after the storm, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam directly inspected the scene. He requested the Department of Agriculture and Environment to urgently review all landslides, develop a plan to evacuate people from dangerous areas and study the construction of a dike along the river to protect people's safety.
Currently, localities are continuing to monitor the landslide developments, erecting warning fences, and limiting people and vehicles from passing through dangerous areas. People hope to soon have a solid embankment project to protect their houses, production land and the main traffic route along the Vinh Dinh River.
