OpenAI is preparing to launch a series of major updates to the AI Sora video application, after the application quickly climbed to No. 1 on the App Store in the US and Canada since its launch in late September.
With the new update, Sora will add creative tools that allow users to create AI guest roles from pets, items or other characters, while upgrading the social experience and adding the upcoming Android version.
The information was shared by Bill Peebles, head of Sora, on X. Mr. Peebles said that new creative tools will be launched in the next few days, including the ability to turn familiar items such as favorite stuffed toys, pets or any other object into supporting characters in AI videos.
This feature is called cameo, allowing users to create their own AI characters based on a recorded reference video.
These cameo effects can be shared with friends, helping them create videos with that AI character, opening up unprecedented creative interaction.
Peebles wrote: We expect people to register for many new cameo appearances. To make searching easier, we are updating the new generation user interface, displaying trending cameo in real time.
In addition to the cameo, Sora will also launch a basic video editing tool, starting with the ability to combine multiple clips together, while gradually adding advanced tools.
The app also upgrades the social experience, allowing users to interact in groups, such as a channel dedicated to universities, companies or sports clubs, to expand the way users Sora and friends use.
OpenAI also focuses on minimizing excessive censorship, which has been a complaint of some users, and improving the overall performance of the application.
Although the Android version has been pre-registered on the Google Play Store, the company has not yet announced the official launch date.
According to data from Appfigures, Sora has reached about 2 million downloads in less than a month, a remarkable number because the app is still only for invited users and has only been launched in the US and Canada.
This initial success shows the strong appeal of Sora, especially when combining video AI, character creation and social interaction in the same platform.
