In the context of social networks becoming an increasingly indispensable part of life, protecting personal accounts becomes more urgent than ever.
Many cases of accounts being hacked, information being stolen or illegally used have made users worried. The two-factor authentication solution (2FA) is considered an effective "shield" to help enhance security, limiting the risk of losing control of accounts.
Two-factor authentication is a security method that requires users not only enter a password but also provide a second factor to confirm identity, usually a code sent via SMS, a code-making application such as Google Authenticator, Authy or specialized hardware devices.
Thanks to that, even if the password is exposed, bad guys will still have difficulty accessing the account without a second authentication code.
According to Mr. James Anderson, a cybersecurity expert at the world's leading security company Cyber Shield, using 2FA not only helps reduce the risk of accounts being hacked but also raises users' awareness of security.
Most recent cyberattacks have been successful because users only use simple, easy-to-guess or exposed passwords, Mr. Anderson emphasized. 2FA is the second most important layer of defense, significantly increasing the level of account security.
Not only do large social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter support 2FA, many other platforms such as email, e-wallets and banking apps also apply this measure. However, according to a survey by Cyber Shi Shield, about 40% of users worldwide have not activated this feature, mostly due to lack of understanding or fear of complexity in use.
To encourage users to apply 2FA, experts suggest some notes: should choose a code-making application instead of accepting SMS to avoid the risk of SIM forgery; securely back up backup codes to avoid losing access when changing phones; and always update software and devices to protect against new security vulnerabilities.
Enhancing security through two-factor authentication is increasingly becoming a necessary standard in protecting social media accounts. With the support of technology and increased user awareness, the risk of attack will be significantly reduced, better protecting the digital life of each individual.
