International Group plans to invest nearly 2 billion USD to build an AI super data center in Ho Chi Minh City

HCMC - The G42 Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to invest in an AI Super Data Center with a total capital of nearly 2 billion USD in HCMC.

The above information was announced by Mr. Lam Dinh Thang - Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, in his speech at the 1st Congress of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030, on the morning of October 15.

Mr. Lam Dinh Thang said that in the next 5 years, Ho Chi Minh City has identified a number of major goals: the contribution of the productivity of general factors (TFP) reaching at least 60%, the digital economy accounting for 30 - 40% of GRDP, making Ho Chi Minh City an international-class Innovation Center by 2030.

The city aims to have a creative startup ecosystem in the Top 100 most dynamic cities globally and have at least 5 international standard research centers in strategic technology fields.

To realize the above goals, Mr. Lam Dinh Thang said that Ho Chi Minh City focuses on implementing 3 strategic breakthroughs in the coming period.

First breakthrough: Mechanisms, policies and investment attraction

According to Mr. Thang, the City will promote attracting strategic investors in the field of science and technology.

The good news for Ho Chi Minh City is that currently, the G42 Group of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning to invest in an AI Super Data Center with a capital of nearly 2 billion USD in the city, said Mr. Thang.

At the same time, the City will develop a High-Tech Park and new technology testing areas according to a special mechanism; pilot a public-private partnership model to invest in universities, aiming for the goal of Ho Chi Minh City National University to be in the Top 100 in Asia by 2030.

Ho Chi Minh City will also issue a policy to promote the private sector to invest in science and technology to form a strong innovation ecosystem.

Second breakthrough: Strategic technology and innovation ecosystem

According to Mr. Thang, the city prioritizes the development of cutting-edge technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, semiconductor chips, robots, blockchain and medicine - biology.

In addition, Ho Chi Minh City will establish a Startup Support Fund according to a new model, attracting capital from domestic and foreign adventure investment funds; at the same time, increase resource support for potential innovation centers to form a chain of technology - research - application - product commercialization linkages.

Third breakthrough: Digital governance and digital human resources

Ho Chi Minh City focuses on building a digital database and digital platform to form a data-driven government model.

The city promotes the cooperation of "four Houses" (Schools - State - Enterprises - Investment Funds, Banks); expands technology diplomacy, attracts international experts and strongly develops digital human resources, creating a foundation for sustainable development.

According to the Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, TFP - a factor reflecting the contribution of science and technology to economic growth is expected to reach 59% by the end of 2025, and will continue to play a leading role in the period of 2025 - 2030.

Ho Chi Minh City's digital economy also grew rapidly, contributing 22% to GRDP in 2024 and is expected to increase to 25% in 2025.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City ranks 2nd in the country in terms of Digital Transformation Index and National Innovation Index.

The innovative startup ecosystem is ranked 110th globally and 5th in Southeast Asia, while the digital finance and blockchain sectors have helped the city rise to 30th in the world.

These positive results are a solid foundation for Ho Chi Minh City to make a breakthrough in the next 5 years Mr. Lam Dinh Thang emphasized.
