On the afternoon of October 15, Nghe An Province Rescue Force said that at about 4:20 p.m. the same day, the body of Mr. V.V.D. (born in 1993, residing in Kim Lien commune, Nghe An province) was found in the downstream area of Lam river, not far from the location of the incident.
Previously, on the night of October 13, the authorities received a report that a man was driving a motorbike onto Ben Thuy Bridge - a bridge across Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces - and then left the motorbike on the bridge, carrying his two young daughters to jump into the river.

At the scene, people discovered a motorbike with an Nghe An license plate and two pairs of students. That same night, the authorities coordinated with volunteer rescue teams to search.
The identities of the victims were identified as Mr. V.V.D. and 2 daughters, V.H.B. (born in 2020) and V.G.T. (born in 2021). The two children are the children of Mr. D. and Ms. B.T.Y. (born in 1999).
The rescue team handed over the bodies of the three father and son to the family for burial procedures according to customs. The incident was spread on social networks, causing a stir in public opinion.
