According to Bloomberg, Apple has stopped plans to expand the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses model to focus on developing a smart glasses line that competes directly with Meta products.
Vision Pro, launched in early 2024 for $3,499, quickly lost momentum due to a lack of popular content and having to face cheaper competitors like Meta Quest.
Previously, Apple planned to launch a lighter version of Vision Pro, code N100, in 2027. However, this project is currently delayed as the company shifts personnel to develop smart glasses. According to the source, Apple is researching two glasses models.
The first model, the N50, does not have its own screen, connects to the iPhone and can be introduced next year, before being officially released in 2027. The second model, integrated with a screen, is expected to launch in 2028, but Apple is speeding up progress to compete with Meta Ray-Ban Display.
Apple's smart glasses will rely heavily on artificial intelligence and voice control. Meanwhile, Meta has just introduced an $800 glasses model with integrated screens and controllable belts at the Connect event, and launched the Vanguard line in collaboration with Oakley for athletes.
Although it declined to comment on this information, Apple still attracted attention when at its recent product launch event, it introduced a series of upgraded iPhones and a thinner iPhone Air model.
However, observers say that Apple has not yet clearly shown how to narrow the gap in the AI race with Google, which has just launched the powerful Gemini feature on its latest phone lines.
