Not only known as the bustling culinary street of Can Tho, De Tham Street (Ninh Kieu District) is also the first place in the city to pilot cashless payments.
This is a model jointly implemented by The State Bank of Vietnam, Can Tho City branch, which has facilitated the trading of small traders on the route.
Specializing in selling traditional cakes on De Tham Street (Ninh Kieu District), merchant Le Thi Tuyet Suong happily said that cashless payment is very convenient, buyers do not need to carry money, just scan the QR code to pay. Accordingly, she also does not have to worry about finding extra money to give back to customers, she transfers as much as she buys.
“The customer scans the QR code, transfers, and the phone notifies me that the money has been received, so it's done, very convenient,” said Ms. Suong.
With the introduction of the new payment method, Ms. Suong confided that at first, she was a bit hesitant to approach it because of her age, but now, after using it a lot, this small trader has gradually become accustomed to it. If she doesn't understand something, she will ask the small traders nearby, each person shares a little with each other, so they learn together, and know how to do it together.
Not far away, the bread cart of small trader Vo Kim Phuong also has a QR code for customers to pay without cash. According to this small trader, society is becoming more modern, customers, especially young people, often prefer the trend of cashless payment, so he himself must also update.
“Many young people forget or do not bring cash to buy food at my place, but when they hear that they can pay by bank transfer, they are very happy. A loaf of bread is only 15,000 VND, but if they want to pay by bank transfer, I agree. There is no problem, just scan the QR code and it is done. Cashless payment is convenient for the buyer and also helps me gain more customers,” Ms. Phuong shared.
Ms. Phuong added that she did not have much difficulty getting used to this payment method. For things she did not understand, she asked her children to explain how to use it and took advantage of her free time to practice getting used to it herself.
Previously, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued a plan to implement the Project on developing non-cash payments in Vietnam, period 2021 - 2025 in the city with the common goal of creating positive changes, reducing costs related to cash; reducing the rate of cash in circulation in the area, creating transparency, ease, towards a digital economy and digital society.
