According to analyst Jeff Pu, all four iPhone 17 models expected to launch next year will be equipped with metal lenses for Face ID. This information he gave in a recent report to investors.
Previously, leaker Digital Chat Station also revealed that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will use a metal lenses that integrate both a transmitter and a signal receiver. This design helps reduce some of the Face ID components, thereby making the Dynamic Island smaller.
Last year, Jeff Pu said that only the iPhone 17 Pro Max has a compact Dynamic Island thanks to this technology. But now, he believes that the entire iPhone 17 series will feature metal lenses.
Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo commented in January that the size of Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 series will be nearly unchanged.
All three sources have had high accuracy in the past, so it remains to be seen how Apple will make the changes.
Meanwhile, it is expected that the iPhone 18 Pro series launched in 2026 will have a hidden Face ID under the screen, leaving only a small hole in the front camera.
