Meta said that after Threads reaches 400 million monthly active users, the platform will expand advertising to all users worldwide.
This "inevitable" move follows the advertising trial phase in 30 countries earlier last year.
Advertising on Threads is operated by Meta's AI application advertising system, using "equivalent level of personalization" to Facebook and Instagram, meaning continuing to rely on user tracking and profiling.
According to Meta, advertising expansion will begin next week, but the full implementation process may take several months.
“Advertising on Threads will gradually expand, with the initial display frequency at a low level while we move towards global availability in the coming months” - Meta stated in a blog post.
With the official expansion of advertising globally, Threads shows that this platform has overcome the testing phase to enter a clear commercial exploitation cycle.
Meta's move is not only aimed at increasing revenue, but also affirms that Threads is being placed on par with Facebook and Instagram in the group's advertising ecosystem.
