Traders consume early, kumquat prices increase
At gardens in Thanh Ha area, Hoi An Tay ward, the buying and selling atmosphere is extremely bustling these days. Although there is still nearly a month until the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo 2026, most ornamental kumquat gardens here have owners. Traders have proactively come to the gardens to guarantee the entire product, ensuring supply for the Tet market.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Hong, a long-time kumquat grower in Hoi An Tay ward, said that this year his garden produced about 800 pots. All of these kumquats have been ordered by traders early. However, behind the joy of selling goods, Mr. Hong cannot help but worry about the cost problem.
He shared: "This year the selling price has increased slightly compared to previous years, but in reality the profit is not too high. The reason is that the prices of seeds, fertilizers and pesticides have all increased sharply. We are forced to increase selling prices to compensate for input costs.
Real surveys show that the price of ornamental kumquats at the garden this year is quite diverse, suitable for many customer segments. Small pots are priced from 800,000 VND, popular types range from 1.2 to 2.2 million VND, while large, beautiful pots are priced from 2.7 million VND or more. This year, the number of traders from the North flocking to buy has increased sharply compared to previous years, creating fierce competition right in the garden.

Expectations for a bumper crop
Although the output market is quite favorable, this year's weather causes no small difficulties for kumquat growers. According to garden owners, prolonged heavy rains and cold spells have directly affected fruit quality. Mr. Le Quy, a local resident, shared that due to harsh weather, some trees have fruits that are not as large and even as last year. To overcome this, people are focusing highly on the "last water" care period.
Although I have sold them to traders, I still have to take responsibility for taking the best care. I am actively pouring more fertilizer to make the trees green, and at the same time using fortune-stimulating measures to make the trees sprout and flower right on Tet. Customers really like kumquat trees with enough ripe fruits, green fruits, flowers and young fortunes," Mr. Quy added.
Sharing the same view, Ms. Duong Thieu is also busy watering for two days and taking care of each kumquat tree to ensure that when traders come to transport it, the tree will reach its most beautiful state.

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Hoi An Tay ward, this year's ornamental kumquat crop, the whole locality has nearly 700 households participating in cultivation with a total quantity of more than 200,000 pots of all kinds, an increase of about 70,000 pots compared to Tet last year. This is an impressive figure showing the strong development of the craft village. To promote the brand and promote consumption, it is expected that on the 10th and 11th days of the twelfth lunar month, the ward will organize the ornamental kumquat festival. This event promises to be an attractive destination, attracting a large number of tourists and traders to visit and shop, contributing to bringing a prosperous Tet season to the people of the ornamental kumquat capital Da Nang.
