A report from the market analysis company Similarweb shows that Meta's Threads currently records a higher number of users operating daily on mobile devices than Elon Musk's X.
According to Similarweb data, as of January 7, 2026, Threads has about 141.5 million daily active users on iOS and Android, after many months of continuous growth. Meanwhile, X reached about 125 million daily active users on mobile.
Threads' increase in mobile users may come from many factors, including Meta taking advantage of cross-promotion on major platforms such as Facebook and Instagram - where Threads is often introduced to existing users. Besides, there is a strategy focused on content creators and the continuous release of new features.
In the past year, Threads has added a series of features such as preference-based community, improved content filters, private messages, long text, self-disappearance posts and recently it has also been discovered that the game is being tested.
With user growth rate and a continuous feature development strategy, Threads is gradually affirming its position. In the context that users are increasingly sensitive to safety, content and experience issues, Threads' surge in daily usage shows a clear shift in social media access habits, while creating more direct competitive pressure on X in the near future.
