The platform calls this a " group priority, less pressure" for dating, suitable for those who want to get acquainted in a safer environment or reduce anxiety when having a companion.
Users just need to click the Double date icon, select up to 3 friends to create a couple. They will then be suggested that other couples have at least one similar point.
If a couple matches another couple, all 4 people will be added to a chat group. Users can also swipe to any individual to switch to a private conversation.
According to Tinder, this feature is especially popular with users under 29 years old during the testing phase and women tend to like couples three times more than their personal profiles.
Notably, Double date has helped Tinder attract new users and pull old users back. Up to 15% of participants in this feature are new or have just reactivated their accounts. This is a positive signal for parent company Match Group, in the context of a 13% reduction in personnel due to a 5% reduction in the number of users paying fees in the first quarter of this year.
The new feature is now available in some countries. Tinder is expected to expand globally in July.
