Viettel became the first network operator to announce the commercialization of 5G on the morning of October 15, covering 63 provinces and cities.

After 4 years of piloting, on the morning of October 15, Viettel officially launched commercial 5G services for users. This is also the first network operator in Vietnam to announce commercialization of this service.

To experience Viettel's 5G speed, Mr. Nhat Minh (Hanoi) went to a Viettel store on Nguyen Phong Sac Street (Cau Giay District, Hanoi City) and decided to buy a 5G package for 135,000 VND/month, owning 4 GB of 5G high speed every day.

Mr. Minh found that the transmission speed of 5G mobile network is very fast, at times reaching nearly 900 Mbps, making it convenient to surf the web, watch movies, and especially play games.

"Since 5G arrived, I have turned on WiFi broadcasting mode from my phone so that my laptop can connect to the internet quickly and quickly handle necessary work," said Mr. Minh.

Mr. Hung (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) also said that when opening the YouTube application on the 5G network, the most obvious feeling is that the video loads faster. When pressing to fast forward to a part that has not been loaded before, the video only takes less than half a second to continue playing. The "smoothness" on the 5G network is clearly better than on the 4G network.

Mr. Cao Anh Son - General Director of Viettel Telecom said: "If with 2G our aspiration is "each person owns a mobile phone"; 4G is "each person owns a smartphone", then 5G will aim at "each person owning a super-fast, super-connected smartphone", applying technology to solve major social problems, contributing to building a digital society, a smart era in Vietnam".

Besides the good user experiences with 5G mobile networks, there are still some "not so smooth" experiences with this mobile network.

Ms. Phuong (Ha Dong District, Hanoi City) said that she owns a phone with integrated 5G technology. Therefore, when passing through areas with 5G waves, her phone will automatically switch the data network from 4G to 5G, which surprised her.

However, Ms. Phuong said that her initial experience with 5G waves when surfing videos was not smooth. "I think that because it was the first day of deployment, the speed was not stable. I hope that in the future, the advantages of 5G mobile network compared to 4G mobile network will be clearly seen," Ms. Phuong said.

Viettel representative said that it has installed more than 6,500 BTS stations, covering 100% of the "capitals" of 63 provinces and cities, industrial parks, tourist areas, seaports, airports, hospitals, and universities. The network speed can reach 1 Gbps, 10 times faster than current 4G and the latency is almost zero. The network operator also deploys simultaneously on two architectural platforms 5G NSA (Non-stand Alone) and 5G SA (Stand Alone).

Currently, the network operator offers 11 prepaid packages starting from 135,000 VND, and 8 postpaid packages starting from 200,000 VND for individual customers. People using 5G-enabled devices can register for the service without changing their SIM cards.

In addition, the network operator also developed Open APIs to provide data, configuration capabilities and interaction with the 5G network according to GSMA standards for the application development community in Vietnam and around the world.

"This makes it easier for application developers to innovate on the 5G platform," said a network representative.

Not only Viettel network, on the morning of October 15, many VinaPhone subscribers also received a message notifying them that their subscription was in an area with 5G signal and inviting them to experience the service for free.

A representative of the VinaPhone network also said that from October 13 to November 15, VinaPhone customers who already have 5G phones will be able to participate in a free super-fast 5G experience program with 50 GB of data, valid for 30 days.
