Vietnam in Top 12 countries most targeted by ciber attacks

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

According to Kaspersky, Vietnam is in the group of 12 countries in the world most targeted by targeted cyber attack groups in the first half of 2026.

Cyber security threats in the Asia-Pacific region continue to increase and become increasingly complex in the first half of 2026, as security firm Kaspersky has detected and prevented 75 million attacks originating from online sources.

The recorded results also show that in the first six months of this year, the security company's solutions have prevented 3.4 million backdoor malware attacks, 2.4 million password-stealing malware attacks and 250,000 ransomware attacks.

The three most common serious cybersecurity incidents globally in 2025 include: Advanced Persistent Threats accounting for 24%, psychological attacks accounting for 15% and malware accounting for 12%.

APT are targeted cybersecurity attack campaigns, carried out with a high level of sophistication. In these campaigns, attackers illegally infiltrate the system and operate silently for a long time without being detected.

APT campaigns are often aimed at serving cyber espionage activities, stealing sensitive information or achieving long-term strategic goals. Kaspersky's team of experts is currently monitoring more than 900 APT groups worldwide.

Considering the global scope, among the 12 countries most targeted by APT groups, there are 5 countries in the Asia-Pacific region: China, India, Myanmar, Pakistan and Vietnam.

Mr. Sergey Lozhkin, Head of Global Research and Analysis Group (GReAT) in charge of Asia-Pacific, Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META) shared: "The Asia-Pacific region is leading the world in digital transformation and AI agent applications.

Along with a complex geopolitical environment, these factors make the region a top target for criminal groups behind the most sophisticated APT campaigns.

The fact that many countries in the region are constantly becoming targets of attack shows the importance of regularly updating information about threats. Organizations and businesses need to strengthen their cybersecurity defense capabilities and strengthen cooperation in the region”.
