Accordingly, this new update allows Windows 11 to automatically help extend battery life for laptops even though users may often forget to turn on battery saving modes.
In fact, with many background applications, the battery can be worn out quickly without users knowing it. This new feature can make a big difference, especially when it interacts with the workload of a laptop, not simply the remaining battery level.
Microsoft is aiming to make energy saving more continuous and less disruptive. This update shows that the company is thinking in that direction. At the same time, it also helps Windows 11 devices run cooler and more effectively, thanks to the ability to manage electricity more intelligently.
The new feature is called Adaptive Energy Saver. Designed to help the device save energy based on how users use the device, not just the remaining battery level.
If before, the standard power saving mode of Windows 11 only activated when the battery level was low. At that time, the system will reduce the screen brightness by 30%, stop some background applications and temporarily postpone non-urgent updates. Many users have seen applications such as OneDrive, OneNote or Phone Link completely stop synchronizing when this mode is enabled.
But with Adaptive Energy Saver, instead of waiting until the battery is close to running out, Windows will monitor the system's load - that is, the level of device performance - to decide whether it is the right time to save energy. On the other hand, unlike the old mode, this feature does not reduce screen brightness, so users may not recognize it when it is enabled and works silently in the background.
Microsoft explains that the new system will often turn on and off power saving mode without changing the screen brightness, based on the power status and current load of the system.
This feature is only available for devices with batteries - that is, laptops, tablets and handheld devices. This means that a personal computer (desktop) will not be able to test Adaptive Energy Saver. However, standard energy saving mode is still available on all Windows 11 running machines, including desktop. Microsoft has made that change in 2024 to help both home computers reduce power consumption when needed.
Microsoft has begun rolling out this feature to trial users and is expected to release it widely by the end of 2025.
