Xiaomi has just created a big shock for the Chinese and world smartphone brands. Accordingly, they will not launch the Xiaomi 16 series, but will go straight to the Xiaomi 17 series this September, a month earlier than the previous generation.
On Weibo, Xiaomi's Chairman and CEO Lei Jun emphasized that this is not only a leap forward in terms of data, but also a strong statement, affirming that this new product line is designed to compete directly with iPhone, in the high-end smartphone segment.
The Xiaomi 17 series is expected to launch on September 17 with 3 versions: Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. These models are all equipped with the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, promising to bring breakthrough performance to users.
In particular, the Xiaomi 17 standard version is aimed at the general user, bringing significant upgrades without additional costs. Xiaomi 17 Pro has a compact design, focusing on improvements in photography technology. Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will be the company's most powerful smartphone yet, combining leading technology with an advanced camera system thanks to the partnership with Leica.
Xiaomi's plan shows the Chinese manufacturer's confidence in competing directly with Apple's product line. With an investment of up to 14 billion USD in research and development in recent years, Xiaomi is clearly showing that it is aiming for an industry lead, based on comprehensive efforts to improve user experience and establish new standards.
Before Xiaomi, Apple launched the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air lines in China. Just a few minutes after opening deposits, the number of orders for this product line on the e-commerce site JD.com surpassed the previous generation of the iPhone 16 series. The entire time frame for receiving the iPhone 17 Pro Max directly at Apple stores in Shanghai on the September 19 delivery day was fully booked within 20 minutes.
