According to YouTube, the new package allows two to use a Premium account together at a cheaper fee than a separate registration. This direction is similar to Spotify's Duo package, aimed at users who want to enjoy Premium benefits such as no ads and in-ground playback, but do not need to register for a family package.
We are testing new ways to bring more flexibility and value to Premium users, including the option of a two-person package in some countries, said a YouTube representative.
This package can help YouTube attract users who have canceled their subscriptions due to increased prices in the past, while expanding revenue from subscription services.
The testing move comes as YouTube (owned by Google) is looking to diversify its subscription packages. In March, the platform launched a Premium Lite package that allows viewing most unadvertised videos for $7.99/month.
YouTube said that the total number of users subscribed to YouTube Premium and YouTube Music (including trial users) has exceeded 125 million globally.
