Google has just added a small but useful change to YouTube Music to improve the user experience. That is the double-touch (double-tap) feature to like the song. This feature is being rolled out in version v8.24.53A, after being discovered in source code since version 8.03.51.
Previously, users could only type a song by tapping the album cover twice. However, the operation of touching the middle of the cover photo twice does not bring any effect. With the new update, this gesture will help users like songs, while automatically adding songs to the Liked Songs list.
This move helps YouTube Music catch up with the familiar gesture control trend on short video platforms such as TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
The update of small features but close to user habits shows that Google is trying to retain YouTube Music users in the increasingly fierce race of the digital music market.
If it continues to maintain this improvement, YouTube Music could well become a viable choice for big names like Spotify or Apple Music.
