YouTube has just introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool that allows users of the YouTube Premium package to create playlists just by describing the genre, mood, or desired topic.
This feature is being gradually deployed on iOS and Android devices, marking a new step forward for the platform in personalizing the music listening experience.
With the new tool, users no longer have to spend time searching for each song or manually arranging playlists.
Instead, they just need to enter or say a few suggestive words, such as "death metal", "sad post rock", "house mix for a relaxing party", "indie pop" or "90s Bollywood hits". Within seconds, YouTube AI will automatically create a playlist that matches the description.
According to YouTube, the goal of this feature is to simplify the process of exploring music and bring a more personalized music listening experience.
Instead of browsing hundreds of available playlists, listeners can accurately describe the mood or music style they want at that time, thereby receiving a "tailor-made" playlist.
This is not the first time YouTube has tested music features based on AI. Previously, in July 2024, this platform tested a customized radio station creation tool based on text suggestions.
The current AI playlist version is considered a more complete development step, with a wider scope of deployment exclusively for paid subscribers.
The new feature is directly integrated into the YouTube application. Premium users just need to go to the Library tab, press the "New" button, then select "AI Playlist".
The application will display a text or voice reminder input box, from which AI will analyze and build a suitable playlist.
Besides the benefits of personalization, this move also reflects the increasingly fierce competition in the field of online music streaming.
Platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music and Deezer have early deployed similar features, using AI to create playlists or radio stations according to user preferences.
YouTube's deeper involvement in this trend shows that the company is seeking to affirm its position in the saturated streaming market.
Along with the addition of new features, YouTube is also increasing the value of the Premium package.
Recently, the platform began restricting access to lyrics for some free YouTube Music users, as part of a small experiment to encourage switching to a paid package.
According to Google (YouTube's parent company), revenue from subscription services is playing an increasingly important role. Earlier this year, Google said it had reached 325 million paid subscribers on services such as Google One and YouTube Premium, showing that the subscription-focused strategy is bringing clear results.
In the context that users are increasingly expecting personalized experiences, YouTube's application of AI in playlists can become a big plus, helping the platform retain existing users and attract more new subscribers.
