YouTube Shorts has just begun testing a new feature using Google Lens technology, allowing viewers to look up more information about what appears in short videos.
The feature will start rolling out to all Shorts users this week.
After being enabled, users can access Google Lens by pausing the video, selecting the Lens icon in the toolbar above, then tapping or highlighting the object to find out.
Similar search results and images will be displayed directly on the video.
Google said that during the testing phase, the advertisement will not appear in the search results. In addition, this feature is not yet available for videos linking to shopping or promoting paid products.
Although not yet associated with commercial activities, integrating Lens into Shorts is considered a step that could pave the way for future direct shopping features.
In addition, if widely deployed, this can be a powerful tool that helps users look up information immediately and opens up many new opportunities for both content creators and advertisers.
