Following the launch of the miniplayer feature and settings improvements, YouTube is now rolling out a new design for the playback speed control tool on its Android and iOS apps.
Previously, playback speed customization appeared as a long list that took up nearly half the screen with options like: 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, Normal (1x), 1.25x, 1.5x, 1.75x, and 2x. (This interface was also used for the sleep timer.)
Now, the new design has become neater, located at the bottom of the screen, making it easier for users to operate.
The bottom toolbar shows 5 default speeds set in pill-shaped frames: 0.25, 1.0 (Normal), 1.25, 1.5, and 2.0.
The highlight of this update is a new slider that allows users to adjust the playback speed in 0.5 increments by dragging the slider or using the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons. The current speed will be displayed above the slider.
This new design for playback speed customization is being rolled out as a server-side update, coming with YouTube version 19.43 for Android and 19.44 for iOS.
