How to eat corn good for liver function

Kiều Vũ |

Liver function is supported by the foods in daily meals. One of them is corn.

Corn is a familiar food, rich in carbohydrates, fiber and many plant compounds. However, for corn to truly become a beneficial part of a liver health diet, it is important not only to eat corn, but also to the way of eating, portion size and combined foods.

A healthy overall diet is an important factor for liver function.

First, whole corn, boiled or steamed corn should be prioritized instead of corn dishes made with a lot of sugar, butter, cream or fat. Fiber in plant-based foods contributes to creating a balanced diet and can help control the amount of energy put into the body.

In particular, people at risk or suffering from fatty liver are encouraged to choose more vegetables, fruits and whole grains, while limiting high-fat and simple sugar foods.

Second, eat corn with a moderate portion. Corn still provides carbohydrates and energy, so eating too much, especially when you have eaten a lot of rice, bread or other carbohydrate sources in the same meal, can cause total energy to exceed needs. A reasonable meal can combine a portion of corn with green vegetables and low-fat protein sources such as fish, eggs, poultry or beans.

Third, pay attention to the processing method. Boiled or steamed corn is usually more suitable than fried corn, stir-fried corn with a lot of oil, or sugar-coated corn dishes. Corn broth, corn silk, or corn dishes should not be seen as a liver detoxification method. Liver function cannot be improved just by a single type of food.

The way to eat corn that is beneficial for liver health is to eat whole corn, simple processing, control portion sizes and combine with vegetables and healthy protein.

More importantly, it is necessary to maintain a reasonable weight, limit sugary drinks and alcohol. For people with liver disease or cirrhosis, the diet needs to be personalized according to health conditions and instructions from a doctor or nutritionist.
