The importance of the thyroid gland for health
According to Rakshita Mehra, clinical nutrition expert at Cloudnine Group of Hospitals (Noiida, India), the thyroid is a small agency shaped like a butterfly, located in front of the neck, under the pharynx.
Although small size, thyroid plays an important role in many physiological processes of the body. The thyroid produces hormones affecting metabolism, energy levels, body temperature, heart rate and growth, general development of the body.
Thyroxine thyroid hormones (T4) and Triiodothyronine (T3) will directly adjust the conversion of food into energy. These hormones affect all factors, from the speed of burning calories to the activity of the organs, helping to determine whether the body consumes energy quickly or slowly.
Mehra explained that body temperature was partly adjusted by the thyroid hormone. When the metabolism is accelerated and high thyroid hormone levels, the body temperature may increase. Conversely, when the thyroid hormone is low, the metabolic process slows down and the body temperature may decrease.
The diet is not good for the function of the thyroid gland
Restricting goitrogen: Some foods containing compounds called goitrogen, which can reduce the production ability of the thyroid hormone, especially when excessive consumption. Soy products such as tofu, soy milk, as well as the vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, spinach and kale all contain goitrogen.
If you experience thyroid problems, you should limit eating these foods, especially when they are raw foods. If cooked, the temperature will reduce the cheetrogen content.
Processed food: Processed meals can worsen inflammation and weight gain in people with thyroid disorders. Sweet foods and desserts are high in sugar, packed dishes such as biscuits, chips, cakes, chocolate and soft drinks often contain sugar, sodium and trans fat.
All of these foods can seriously affect the health of the thyroid. To protect the thyroid, you should choose pure, nutritious food.
Too much caffeine: Especially for people with hyperthyroidism, caffeine can make symptoms such as anxiety, nervousness and difficulty sleeping become worse. Caffeine drinks like coffee and energy drinks can make this condition worse.
You should choose coconut water, lemon juice, herbal tea or homemade soup to replenish the body's liquid.
