Vitamin B12 helps boost energy, so it's best to take it early in the day, says certified nutritionist Amita Gadre.
Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency include anemia, fatigue or weakness, difficulty walking, weight loss, irritability, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. These conditions typically occur in people who do not get enough vitamin B12 from their diet or when their digestive tract does not absorb enough of it.
Sharing the same view, Dr. Aniket Mule - internal medicine consultant, Wockhardt Hospital, Mira Road (Mumbai, India) - added that vitamin B12 plays an important role in maintaining the health of the nervous system and red blood cells.
Vitamin B12 is best taken in the morning due to its role in energy production. It helps form red blood cells, supports nerve function, and contributes to DNA synthesis. Therefore, it boosts energy levels and can increase alertness.
“Vitamin B12 supplements play an important role in energy metabolism and nervous system function, so you should take them during the day. This is because vitamin B12 can increase alertness and reduce feelings of fatigue, which can lead to difficulty sleeping,” says Dr. Aniket Mule.
Taking B12 at night not only affects the body's absorption process but also interferes with other functions that work at night to repair and restore the body. Because it can affect the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep and reduces the ability to fall into deep sleep.
Nutritionists recommend that if you are taking vitamin B12 supplements, you should take it in the morning or afternoon instead of in the evening to avoid affecting your sleep and make the most of the energy effects of vitamin B12.
