On the morning of September 24, the Hanoi Association of Supporting Industry Enterprises (Hansiba) coordinated with units to organize a training and certification workshop on "Aerospace Quality Management System" - AS9100.
The aviation market is booming
According to Airbus’ latest Global Aviation Services Forecast (GSF), the commercial aviation services market in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to double in value from $52 billion to $129 billion by 2043. In particular, the aircraft maintenance segment will reach a value of $109 billion, while other segments such as aircraft modifications, upgrades, and training and operations will also grow strongly. The region is expected to need 999,000 new skilled professionals over the next 20 years, including 268,000 new pilots, 298,000 technicians and 433,000 new flight attendants.
This shows that there is a great demand for human resources and industrial products supporting the aviation industry. Vietnam, with the fifth fastest growing aviation market in the world and the highest in Southeast Asia, has great opportunities to participate in the supply chain in this field.
Opportunities and challenges
At the workshop held on September 24 by the Hanoi Association of Supporting Industry Enterprises (Hansiba), Mr. Ishida Takayuki - General Director of Vietnam - Japan Supporting Industry Consulting - Investment - Development Co., Ltd. (VI-JA CID) - emphasized that the demand for commercial aircraft in the next 20 years will reach about 36,000 units, with an annual growth rate of about 5%. These figures are a clear sign of the opportunities that Vietnamese enterprises can seize to join the aviation and aerospace support industry. However, Mr. Ishida also pointed out that Vietnam currently does not have any domestic manufacturers qualified to participate in the aircraft component supply chain.
Hansiba Chairman Nguyen Hoang also stated that although the aviation and aerospace manufacturing industry in Vietnam is still new, it is growing rapidly and has a positive impact on the development of other industries. To participate in the global supply chain, Vietnamese enterprises need to meet strict international standards, especially the aerospace quality management system according to AS9100 certification. Achieving this certification is an important step to help Vietnamese enterprises penetrate the international market and cooperate with multinational corporations in the industry.
AS9100 standard and the important role of Vietnamese enterprises
AS9100 certification is not only a quality standard, but also a "passport" to help Vietnamese enterprises join the global value chain. Mr. Vu Manh Giap - Deputy Director of TCI Precision Joint Stock Company - emphasized that understanding and applying international standards such as AS9100 will help Vietnamese enterprises have the opportunity to invest in infrastructure and improve production capacity to meet the requirements of foreign partners.
Mr. Giap also shared that the transition to aviation-standard production is not too difficult for Vietnamese enterprises that are used to meeting the requirements of FDI enterprises. However, the biggest challenge lies in how to connect and cooperate with enterprises in the global aviation and aerospace value chain.
Cooperation and technology transfer
According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Hanoi, production cooperation and experience sharing are important factors to help Vietnamese enterprises participate in the global supply chain. Mr. Thang encouraged enterprises to increase sharing of production experience, customers, markets and technology transfer to improve competitiveness.
In the context of the rapidly developing aviation market in the Asia-Pacific region, the rapid grasp of opportunities and meeting international standards by Vietnamese enterprises is a decisive factor in making Vietnam an important link in the global supply chain of the aviation and aerospace industry. Strategic steps in investing in technology, improving production capacity and building international cooperation relationships will help Vietnam quickly enter this potential market in the near future.
The aviation and aerospace support industry is a new but potential field in Vietnam. With the strong growth rate of the domestic and international aviation industry, along with improving production capacity, meeting international standards and building cooperative relationships, Vietnam can completely rise to become an important center for manufacturing and supplying aviation and aerospace components on the world map in the coming years.
