On flight VN11, many activities aimed at raising awareness and taking action to protect the environment were carried out. Passengers on the sustainable flight all received a special gift, a stuffed animal shaped like a white-cheeked gibbon - one of the most endangered primates in the world, and the mascot associated with the campaign "Gop Leaves, Va Rung - For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development."
This is a project that Vietnam Airlines cooperates with MoMo and Pan Nature with the determination to restore 50 hectares of forest in the rocky mountain corridor between Mai Chau (Hoa Binh) and Van Ho (Son La), the Northwest region of Vietnam. Not only helping to restore forests, offset CO2 and help prevent climate change, the project also raises awareness of forest protection among indigenous communities and conserves rare flora and fauna here. Notably, the critically endangered white-cheeked gibbon, with only 14 individuals left in the area and at high risk of extinction.
In addition, the “sustainable flight” VN11 also carries the message of “fly light”. For the first time, Vietnam Airlines encourages passengers on flights to reduce their luggage load. According to Vietnam Airlines, reducing luggage load is one of the measures to make the aircraft “lighter”, consume less fuel, thereby reducing CO2 emissions into the environment.
Specifically, VN11 passengers are recommended to reduce the weight of their luggage on the Ho Chi Minh City - Paris route, through simple measures such as reducing the amount of clothes, shoes or items that are not really necessary for the trip. VN11 passengers who meet the standards for reducing the weight of their luggage will be given special gifts by Vietnam Airlines to encourage this action.
To carry out flight VN11 to participate in the SkyTeam "challenge", Vietnam Airlines used Boeing 787-9 aircraft equipped with new generation engines, helping to reduce emissions and noise to the environment. At the same time, the airline has researched and optimized flight routes to Europe to shorten flight times, reduce fuel consumption, and limit environmental impacts. Using a modern fleet and optimizing flight routes are the most important solutions of Vietnam Airlines in its sustainable development strategy.
In addition, flight VN11 also minimizes the use of nylon and single-use plastic. In fact, this is a solution that Vietnam Airlines has widely deployed across its entire flight network for many years, helping to reduce tens of millions of plastic items and nylon bags each year.
For meals served in the air, Vietnam Airlines makes the most of local ingredients and seasonal foods, while implementing a strict process to collect and recycle dry goods and disposable utensils that are still of good quality, helping to minimize unnecessary waste to the environment.
The company also collaborated with USSEC - the US Soybean Export Council to design healthy and environmentally friendly meal trays ("Healthier and more Sustainable Meal"). Each meal will be enhanced with green vegetables and plant-based ingredients, using healthy ingredients and processing methods. In particular, fish and seafood ingredients meet ASC standards - an international certification for responsibly farmed seafood, minimizing negative impacts on the environment, ecosystems, and communities. At the same time, combined with ingredients processed from sustainably farmed US soybeans.
Participating in the sustainable flight challenge is one of the activities in Vietnam Airlines' development strategy in the context of the global and domestic aviation industry posing many challenges regarding environmental protection. As the national airline, Vietnam Airlines always puts social and environmental responsibility first, including accompanying the Government on zero net emissions by 2050, and is also one of the active and responsible members of the SkyTeam Alliance.

The Aviation Challenge (TAC) is an initiative of the SkyTeam global airline alliance to promote sustainable innovation in the aviation industry.
TAC was first held in 2022 under the name “The Sustainable Flight Challenge” (TSFC). But this year it has been renamed to reflect its broader scope, encompassing all aspects of the aviation industry. Participating in this challenge, airlines around the world will compete and collaborate to expand the application of sustainable development solutions, aiming to reduce the environmental impact of the aviation industry.
The theme of the 2024 "challenge" is "Adaptation". Accordingly, TAC sets a goal for airlines to implement sustainable solutions in all operations and apply them on a larger scale, from fuel, flight operations, in-flight services to ground operations, cargo handling or digital technology applications to save resources. Previously in 2023, Vietnam Airlines also participated in the TSFC challenge in 2023 and achieved many successes.
