New low pressure forecast near the East Sea
According to the latest low pressure forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the new low pressure area is at about 6 degrees North latitude, 136 degrees East longitude.
The depression is outside the country's Area of Responsibility (PAR), but has a moderate chance of strengthening into a tropical depression within 24 hours, starting on November 24.
If it develops into a storm, the Philippines will name it storm Verbena - one of the last storms of the 2025 typhoon season.
The expected movement direction and impact of the new low pressure
The low pressure is forecast to move west-northwest, approaching the East Sea after passing through the southern or central Philippines.
From 24-2611, bad weather may affect the Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas; Caraga and Northern Mindanao; Part of Southern Luzon.
The low pressure is likely to enter the East Sea after that with a tendency to move northwest. When it enters the East Sea and strengthens, the low pressure is forecast to become storm No. 15.
Risk of bad weather due to new low pressure
Due to the impact of the low pressure near the East Sea and the converging cloud bands, many areas in Eastern Visayas, Bohol, Caraga, Northern Mindanao and Davao may experience moderate to heavy rain. This is accompanied by the risk of local flash floods, landslides, and rapid flooding in low-lying areas.
Tourists who are in or are preparing to travel to Eastern Visayas, Cebu, Bohol, Northern Mindanao, Davao and Southern Luzon should closely monitor the storm forecast for the next 24-48 hours.
Small boats and island tours in these areas are at risk of being interrupted.
The Southern Hydrometeorological Station said that around November 26-27, there is a possibility of a low pressure area strengthening into a tropical depression or storm in the East Sea.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the period of November 21-20, December 2025, the East Sea area is likely to experience 1-2 storms or tropical depressions. Some may directly affect the mainland of Vietnam. On average, in many years, the East Sea usually has about 1.2 storms/tropical depressions at the same time, with 0.4 of them making landfall in our country.
Short-term weather forecast may change as the low pressure moves closer to the East Sea. Meteorological agencies will continuously update if the depression develops into storm No. 15.
