In 2025, Vietnam welcomed a 17.8% higher number of international visitors compared to 2019 - the golden age of tourism before COVID-19. This has become the highest milestone ever.
In December 2025 alone, the number of visitors reached over 2 million, an increase of 15.7% compared to the same period last year, contributing to promoting the growth of the service sector.
Accordingly, international passengers by air accounted for the largest proportion with more than 17.8 million arrivals (84.3%), an increase of 20.2%. Passenger arrivals by road reached nearly 3.1 million arrivals (14.4%), an increase of 22.6%; sea route reached 273.9 thousand arrivals (1.3%), an increase of 10.4%.
Asia continues to be the main contributing region with 16.6 million visitors, accounting for 78.6%. Europe reached 2.8 million visitors (13.1%), America 1.1 million visitors (5.2%), Australia 0.6 million visitors (2.9%) and Africa 56,000 visitors (0.3%).
China is the largest market for the whole year 2025 with 5.3 million visitors, accounting for about 25% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam; South Korea ranks second with 4.3 million visitors (20.5%).

According to the Statistics Office, although the target of welcoming 23-25 million visitors in 2025 has not been achieved as initially expected, this is the first time Vietnamese tourism has achieved this impressive milestone, marking a new step in the process of recovery and deep integration into the world tourism market; affirming the position, prestige, and quality of Vietnamese tourism on the world tourism map.
In addition to the high increase in international visitors, the number of Vietnamese people leaving the country in the fourth quarter of 2025 reached 1.3 million, an increase of 3.6% compared to the same period last year. In general, in 2025, the number of Vietnamese people leaving the country was 6.7 million, an increase of 26.4% compared to 2025.
