An Giang tourism reaches the finish line early, preparing to welcome APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc

An Giang - The province is also actively focusing all resources to prepare for the 2027 APEC Conference in Phu Quoc Special Zone.

On December 8, the Department of Tourism of An Giang province held a conference to summarize tourism activities, border affairs in 2025 and deploy directions and tasks for 2026.

Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of An Giang Department of Tourism said that in 2025, the locality will welcome over 24.1 million visitors, an increase of 27.3% over the same period, exceeding the annual plan by 14.7%, of which international visitors will be over 1.9 million, an increase of 90.3% over the same period, exceeding the annual plan by 55.7%; total revenue from tourism is estimated at over 67,900 billion VND, an increase of 92.0% over the same period, exceeding the annual plan by 72.9%.

An Giang is also actively mobilizing all resources to prepare for the 2027 APEC Conference in Phu Quoc Special Zone. During the year, the industry organized 22 training courses and professional development for about 1,500 students, focusing on community tourism, agriculture, especially the Net Zero trend (tourism towards zero harm to the environment).

The tourism industry promotes the application of information technology and digital transformation, deploying AI cameras to control entry and exit at tourist areas and coordinating the operation of a website system integrated with virtual reality videos, online ticket purchasing systems and mobile applications. To date, An Giang province has 1,130 accommodation establishments, with 38,754 rooms, of which 31 establishments meet 4-5 star standards.

In 2026, the tourism industry of An Giang province aims to welcome 25 million tourists, including 2.1 million international visitors, with total revenue reaching more than 70,000 billion VND. In particular, focusing on preparing conditions to coordinate in hosting the 2027 APEC Conference in Phu Quoc.

Mr. Nguyen Vu Khac Huy - Chairman of the An Giang Tourism Association proposed to develop a code of conduct, mandatory regulations on civilized tourism standards listing prices without price increases taking advantage of APEC, no solicitation, no slashing, no hygiene standards.

Standardize 100% of signs - documents - maps - instructions in 2 languages (Vietnamese - English), applied in tourist areas, taxis, ports, markets, and service establishments. Develop an APEC tourism destination standard to issue certificates to businesses that meet international standards. Establish an international business and press support center in Phu Quoc, supporting trade - investment connection - project survey.

Mr. Huy also proposed to establish a tourism police force, deploy strong international communication through promotional programs, foreign fairs, use social networks, international television channels, etc. Build a signboard named Phu Quoc to create a check-in and natural promotion point.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Le Van Phuoc - Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee requested the tourism industry to proactively coordinate in organizing promotional activities, participating in cooperative linkage activities, organizing events, programs, and plans to attract tourists. Coordinate with competent authorities to carefully prepare the conditions for organizing the 2027 APEC Conference in Phu Quoc Special Zone.

In particular, focusing on developing and implementing a plan to train and develop human resources for tourism and foreign affairs in 2026; especially urgently training human resources to serve the APEC 2027 event.
