The monsoon season with high humidity and erratic weather changes not only causes discomfort for adults but also poses many risks to the fragile skin of infants, according to hindustantimes.
Pediatricians warn that if not properly cared for, children are susceptible to rashes, eczema or atopic dermatitis.
According to Dr. Kamlesh Haria, PD Hinduja Hospital, Mahim (India), the skin of newborns is up to 30% thinner than that of adults and loses moisture twice as quickly.
This makes the baby's skin prone to dryness, irritation, rashes or outbreaks of skin diseases during the rainy season. The doctor emphasized that proper care not only helps children avoid discomfort but also protects the natural barrier of weak skin.
Newborn baby's skin is many times more sensitive than that of adults
Children's skin has a special structure, the protective layer is not complete, so it is vulnerable to environmental damage. When the humidity of the air is high, the skin is easily sticky, while when the temperature changes suddenly, the baby is more likely to have dry, flaky skin. In particular, for children with eczema or atopic dermatitis, the risk of outbreak is even greater.
Sensitive young skin can lose water quickly, increase permeability and overreactions to external factors, leading to inflammation, itching or rashes. This is why parents need to pay special attention during the rainy season, says Dr. Haria.
5 essential tips to protect newborn skin
To limit the risk of irritation, doctors recommend 5 skin care tips for infants during the rainy season:
Reasonable shower time: Take a 510 minute quick shower with warm water, use a mild shower gel that is non-s compelling with soap. Avoid hot water, avoid bathing too much. After bathing, gently dry to avoid skin fungus in the folds.
Moisturize regularly: Even with high humidity, moisturizer is still necessary to maintain a skin barrier. Choose a type of non-fragmented, glue-containing oatmeal that is applied within 3-5 minutes of showering and repeat after 4-6 hours.
Diaper care: Change diapers regularly, clean, use an anti-inflammatory cream containing zinc oxide and mild ingredients. Avoid products with flavorings.
Choose appropriate clothing: Let your child wear soft, breathable cotton clothes, avoid synthetic fabric. Hydrated clothes should be changed immediately to prevent fungus or scratches.
Do not use the product for adults: Adults' cosmetics and shower gel often contain alcohol, a fragrance that can easily cause irritation. Only choose specialized products for newborns and consult a doctor.
