For a long time, fresh flowers have become an indispensable highlight in every Vietnamese family every Tet holiday.
Whether it is a small apartment in the city center or a traditional house in the countryside, a vase of flowers placed in the living room, on the altar or corner of the room is enough to brighten up the atmosphere of the beginning of the year. The colors of the flowers seem to carry the breath of Spring, evoking a feeling of excitement, warmth and fullness of hope.
Floral artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen said that the selection of Tet flowers usually starts from color.
Tet should prioritize bright colors such as red, orange, yellow, pink. These are familiar colors in Asian culture, symbolizing luck, fortune and happiness," Ms. Huyen shared.
Besides color, choosing the right type of flower is also very important. Flowers imbued with the Tet spirit such as peach blossoms, chrysanthemums, orchids... are often prioritized by many families.
When choosing flowers, you also need to pay attention to durability because they will be used for decoration for at least 3 days of Tet to welcome guests. High-durability flowers such as orchids, cymbidium orchids, winter peach blossoms, peach branches, orchids or chrysanthemums are often chosen more often," the artisan added.
Not only stopping at choosing flowers, the color coordination in the vase is also a decisive factor in aesthetics. Each vase should have a dominant color that accounts for a large proportion, creating a clear highlight. The remaining colors play a supporting role, helping the overall look to be more harmonious.
The basic principle is to have a clear main color. For example, a vase with red as the main color, red should account for about 60% of the overall color. Accompanying colors such as orange and yellow should only account for about 30 - 40% to supplement. In flower arrangements, the main color usually lies in the flowers with the largest area, deciding the shape and structure of the vase," the artisan analyzed.
Ms. Ha Minh Anh (Hanoi) - a regular customer who orders flower arrangements ready for Tet - said that every year, she spends time choosing flower vases suitable for her home space.
I like flower vases with yellow or pink tones because they look very warm. Having a fresh flower vase in the house for Tet feels a completely different atmosphere, the feeling of the new year starting is also lighter and fuller of hope," Ms. Minh Anh shared.
Artisan Thanh Huyen especially noted that to keep fresh flower vases durable during Tet, you should cut the flower base diagonally and remove the leaves, soak them in water before arranging so that the flowers absorb water well and avoid rotting.
At the same time, it is necessary to change the water regularly and take care of it appropriately for each type of flower, paying special attention when the weather is hot to keep the flowers fresh for a long time.
