Early treatment to prevent bed bugs from spreading in the house
Bed bugs are one of the most haunting insects in living space because they reproduce quickly, are difficult to detect and often hide deep in mattresses, bed crevices or furniture. Many people only detect the appearance of bugs when red, itchy spots appear on their bodies or they see small blood stains on bed sheets. According to entomology experts, early treatment is the decisive factor in the ability to completely eliminate this insect.
Mr. Shawn Gleason - an entomologist with a PhD from the University of Florida (USA), and also the founder of Bugs Encyclopedia - a website specializing in research and providing knowledge about insects, said - bed bugs cannot survive at temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius. Therefore, bed sheets, blankets, clothes and fabrics should be washed with hot water and then dried at high temperatures to kill insects and their eggs. For unhygienic areas such as bed crevices, sofas or wall bases, users can use handheld steam cleaners to increase treatment efficiency.
In addition to temperature, diatomaceous earth powder is also considered a natural solution to help kill bed bugs. This powder has the ability to damage the outer shell of insects, causing them to dehydrate and die after a few days. Users can sprinkle powder at locations suspected of hiding bugs and vacuum for about three days.
Clean the mattress, vacuum and use essential oils to help repel bedbugs
Experts say bed bugs often hide in mattresses, headboards, curtains or clothes that have not been cleaned for a long time. Therefore, cleaning the entire living space is a step that cannot be missed.
Users should use a hard brush to scrub the surface of the mattress thoroughly before vacuuming to remove eggs and insect carcasses. After vacuuming, trash bags should be removed right outside the house to prevent bedbugs from continuing to spread. Cracks on walls, peeling wallpaper or wooden cracks on beds should also be sealed because this is where bedbugs easily hide.
In addition to heat treatments, many people also use peppermint, lavender or tea tree essential oils as a method to help repel insects. Experts note that essential oils cannot completely replace intensive bedbug killing, but can help limit insects from returning if used regularly around bedsides and luggage areas.
In case bed bugs appear with high density or recur continuously, experts recommend that people contact a professional insect control unit to handle them thoroughly, avoiding long-term effects on health and daily life.
