The two main characters of this week are the couple Nguyet Linh - Hoang An. Hoang An divorced his ex-wife 7 years ago and raised his child alone for the next 3 years.
Ms. Nguyet Linh and Mr. Hoang An met at the Oncology Hospital when they were both taking care of their stepchildren with cancer.
When their own children passed away from cancer in 2018, the pain and empathy brought them together. Both had spent a long time taking care of their children in the hospital, witnessing many difficult and deprived situations of patients and their families.
The couple has two children together; always maintaining the spirit of sharing and helping the community, they established the "Zero-VND Charity Kitchen", providing free vegetarian meals for children with cancer and other patients.
Mr. Hoang An and Ms. Nguyet Linh started cooking meals for pediatric cancer patients at the hospital where they used to take care of their children. Initially, there were only 50-100 meals, prepared by the couple themselves from limited resources. Despite the difficulties, they were determined to maintain it, stemming from their love and sympathy for the families of the pediatric patients.
Not stopping there, Nguyet Linh and Hoang An also rented a house to provide free accommodation for children with cancer and their families. The house is divided into many rooms, equipped with air conditioning to help the children feel more comfortable after each treatment. Ms. Nguyet Linh said: "Because the children are very hot when taking medicine, and the radiation therapy makes their bodies very hot, they have to sleep well."
After listening to the couple share this story, artist Thanh Dien was very moved. He said: "This action is very humane. Anything we can do to make the children happy is a truly beautiful and meaningful thing."
Ms. Nguyet Linh said that at first, her family did not support her because they were worried that their lives would become more difficult, but with faith and passion, Ms. Nguyet Linh convinced her mother to continue her volunteer work.
Despite many difficulties, she always finds motivation from the people around her.
Not only do they provide charity meals, the couple also dreams of having a free ambulance to support families in their most critical moments.
The couple Nguyet Linh and Hoang An not only work together in charity work but also get along in daily life, although sometimes there are small conflicts.
At the end of the program, the couple gave each other sincere words of love and thanks, expressing gratitude and solidarity in overcoming all difficulties together.
