Ms. Vu Anh Phuong, 29 years old, has studied and worked in the US for more than 6 years, and her husband, Chancelor Bart Clark, 28 years old, from the US. The two brought a fateful, intelligent and touching love story to half the world.
Phuong recounted that when she was a third-year student at the Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, she was assigned to lead a group of American students to visit and that group included Clark - a student at Purdue University. Although she has participated in many exchange groups, Phuong has a special feeling this time so she proactively chose a group with Clark. As for Clark, it is love at first sight love at first sight. During a short week in Hanoi, the two had special feelings for each other, but when they broke up, Clark thought that the 8,000-meal gap made it difficult for the relationship to continue. Phuong then confidently said: "Give me a year, I will definitely go to the US to meet you".
Six months later, that promise came true. Thanks to her excellent academic achievements, Phuong received a full scholarship to go to the US for scientific research. When she landed at Chicago airport, Clark drove for six hours to pick her up and confess his love there. Their first three days of dating were prepared by Clark with their only savings - $1,500. After half a year of long-distance relationship, Clark proposed to Phuong in a surprise at the Botanical Garden before she returned home to defend her thesis. The engagement ring was purchased from the doctoral scholarship he had just received, making Phuong emotional and feeling appreciated.
At first, both families were worried about cultural differences and geographical distances. Clark's parents once asked their son if he was sure he wanted to marry someone halfway around the world, while Phuong's family wondered if "the family had never had a Western husband". However, sincere love and respect gradually made both sides agree. Clark even wrote a handwritten letter in English to his future wife's parents asking for permission to get married.
After getting married, Phuong continued to win a full doctoral scholarship in the US, while Clark completed her doctoral program. Currently, the two have a baby boy who is just one year old. The couple decided to return to Vietnam for a year so that their child could learn their mother tongue and understand more about the culture of their homeland.
When asked about their married life, the two made the audience laugh with their cute "ugly things". The same goes for admitting to being sideways and getting lost, while Clark is too punctual and extremely meticulous. Both of them like to cook, but they once argued just because of adding eggplant soy sauce to BBQ. Clark humorously said, Now when shes cooking, I just run away and do some other things.
Although sometimes controversial, they always respect and love each other. Clark shared in a rather low voice in Vietnamese: "My wife is very beautiful, cooking well, no need to change anything."
At the end of the show, the two held hands and looked straight into each other's eyes. Clark said: "I love you very much and I always will".
Phuong emotionally responded: "You are a great husband and father, I love you very much". The love story between a smart Vietnamese girl and a sincere American guy moved the audience of the program Vo Chong Son and believed that, no matter how far the gap is, true love can still overcome everything.
