Having struggled for many years in Hanoi with the hope of exchanging for a full life, Mr. Nguyen Van Doan (Dong Can village, Hung Viet commune, Phu Tho province) did not think that the decision to leave the city to return to his hometown to work as a worker more than 2 years ago would become a major turning point for his family.
Mr. Doan recalled the days when he worked in the city, the job of installing electricity and water for hire was low-paying, unstable, plus the cost of living in the inner city was expensive... so after a few years working far from home, Mr. Doan did not accumulate much.
What makes Mr. Doan most regretful is not his own life being deprived, but the loneliness in a cramped rented room, the longing and worries for the life of his small family in his hometown. When his children are sick, Mr. Doan only knows how to ask and encourage them through hasty phone calls.
After being encouraged by his wife, Ms. Ha Thi Van, at the beginning of 2024, Mr. Doan decided to leave the city and return to his hometown, applying to work as a garment worker with his wife at Yida Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Song Thao Town Industrial Cluster, Cam Khe commune, Phu Tho province).
Because I thought the tailoring profession was more suitable for women, I was a little worried at first. But seeing firsthand groups of male workers working as tailors in Yida and many other companies in the district, I was determined to become a skilled tailor" - Mr. Doan recalled.
Currently, with a salary of about 15 million VND/month per person, the total income of Mr. and Mrs. Doan is enough to take care of the family. No longer having to pay for rent, not having to spend too much on other expenses, the money the couple earns is reasonably calculated to save.
My family has a few sao of rice fields to grow rice annually, so we don't need to buy rice. In the countryside, everyone grows vegetables and raises chickens themselves, and if we want to buy anything else, we can go to the market and it's cheap. Children going to school here doesn't cost much... Therefore, every month my wife and I accumulate a sum" - Mr. Doan shared.
After more than 2 years of working, Mr. Doan and his wife have completed the dream of building a small spacious house with a total cost of more than 700 million VND. The new house is the result of diligence, but what makes them happier than anything else lies in very simple things.
Every morning, my husband and I can cook breakfast together, prepare and take our children to school before going to work. After work, we pick up our children together, teach them homework in the evening, or the whole family goes out somewhere nearby... For me, that's happiness" - Ms. Van confided.
For Mr. and Mrs. Doan, the geographical distance being shortened also means that the emotional distance is erased. No longer having each person in one place, small conflicts in life are also easier to resolve when both have more time to chat and listen to each other.
The new house is a memorable milestone after 2 years of returning to their hometown. But the most precious thing they received was a true home - a place with family meals, children's laughter, and a couple always accompanying each other on the path to building happiness.
