On December 4, writer Quynh Dao - author of a series of novels adapted into films such as "Hoan Chau Cach Cach", "Dong Song Ly Biet", "Mot Lon Mong Mo"... suddenly passed away at her home.
She is one of the successful female writers, touching millions of Asian readers through romantic love stories. But in reality, her life has been full of ups and downs with love affairs that were not rosy.
Quynh Dao's real name is Tran Triet, born in 1938 in Taiwan (China). She was born and raised in a well-educated family, with a father who was a university professor.
In addition, Quynh Dao's younger sister, Tran Cam Xuan, a PhD in nuclear physics from the University of Wisconsin (USA), has made many contributions to the aviation industry.
In front of an outstanding younger sister, Quynh Dao became self-conscious and rebellious, refusing to study. With a sensitive heart and a more developed mentality than her friends, the female writer fell in love early and fell in love with a literature teacher 25 years her senior named Tuong Nhan. The two could only love each other secretly because the world considered the relationship wrong.
Because she was immersed in love, Quynh Dao failed the university entrance exam and her family discovered their dating and strongly forbade it. The incident caused Tuong Nhan to be fired from his job, Quynh Dao chose suicide in protest. After being treated by her family, she decided to retake the university entrance exam but failed.
Finally, Quynh Dao gave up her intellectual career and focused on writing. Her love affair with teacher Tuong Nhan also became the inspiration for the female writer to write her first work, "Song Ngoai".
At the age of 20, Quynh Dao was arranged by her family to go on a blind date, but she refused the introduced men. The female writer fell in love with Ma Khanh Sam, a poor student who had just graduated.
Despite family opposition, the couple married in 1959. But the rags-to-riches life ruined their romantic marriage. In 1961, Quynh Dao became pregnant and moved back to her mother's house, working hard to write literature to earn money to support her husband.
The publication of the book “Song Ngoai” caused a rift in their marriage. Ma Khanh Sam was ashamed that his wife’s affair with the teacher had become public, so he wrote a degrading article about her in the newspaper. From then on, their 5-year marriage ended in divorce.
After “going their separate ways”, Quynh Dao focused on her career, published many books and became famous. The female writer’s path was supported by Binh Ham Dao - editor-in-chief of Hoang Quan magazine.
Working together for a long time, the two developed perverse feelings.
When she was nearly 40, Quynh Dao decided to leave Binh Ham Dao to get engaged to someone introduced by her family. But at this time, Binh Ham Dao divorced and chose to be with Quynh Dao. In 1979, the two got married after 16 years of turmoil.
Quynh Dao lived with Binh Ham Dao for 40 years. But at the end of his life, Binh Ham Dao suffered from dementia and forgot about the female writer. He was taken in by his children to take care of him and was forbidden from seeing Quynh Dao.
After her husband passed away, the writer born in 1938 lived alone.
