On July 10, the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Ho Chi Minh City announced the conclusion of Director Nguyen Van Hieu at the meeting after the merger.
In particular, Mr. Hieu assigned the Student and Student Affairs Department to study and advise on a proposed plan not to allow students to use mobile phones during recess and during educational activities at school. Only in cases where subject teachers allow them to perform tasks during class hours are students allowed to use their phones.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training's plan to ban students from using phones, even during recess, has received the approval of many parents and teachers.
In fact, in Ho Chi Minh City, in many schools, the above regulation has also been applied, bringing positive results.
At Truong Chinh High School, in the past 2 school years, during recess, the school yard has become more vibrant, when students come together to the school yard to play soccer, sing and chat around.

Pham Gia Bao Ngoc, a student at Truong Chinh High School, shared: Since we no longer use the phone, we have participated in more activities such as going to the sports field, playing the organ, and talking to each other more. There is no longer the scene of everyone sitting in class leaning on their phone.
Bao Ngoc said that before, when I was in the canteen, many friends had the habit of eating while watching the phone, and rarely talking to each other. Now, communication and direct connection become more regular and natural.
Similarly, Hien Anh said that students at school are becoming more and more sociable and open: Before, I used to sit in class and sleep in a sleeping classroom, when I was sad, I was playing with my phone. Now, she participates in club activities such as dancing, singing, and playing sports. The atmosphere was much happier.
Thien Phuc, another student, said that at first he felt strange not being allowed to use the phone, but then he clearly felt the positive change: " now that I am playing, I am playing, talking to my friends. I feel much happier than before. I am still allowed to carry my phone to contact when necessary, but I am no longer dependent.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, the parent of an 11th grade student, expressed her absolute agreement: I strongly support this regulation. At home, my child kept holding his phone all the time, so I was worried. But knowing that I can't use it in my children's school makes me feel completely assured. Thanks to that, I talk to my friends more, and my personality is also more open".
According to Ms. Thu, she was a bit worried at first when her child could not use the phone, especially when she needed to contact suddenly. However, when knowing that the school has support for calling from landline phones and has a space for students to use when necessary, parents are completely assured and highly appreciate the flexibility and humanity in the school's approach.

According to Mr. Lam Trieu Nghi - Principal of Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, the regulation prohibiting students from using phones has been applied by the school for a long time with the high consensus of both parents and teachers.
At home, parents cannot control their children's use of phones. But when entering school, they have to comply with regulations, which helps parents feel more secure, Mr. Nghi shared.
He added that the school always creates conditions for students to contact parents when needed by using a landline at the headquarters. For classes that use phones for learning, teachers will clearly record them on a board for supervisors to know and supervise.
"We have been doing this for many years. The results show that students are more dynamic, the school atmosphere is much more positive, said Mr. Lam Trieu Nghi.
