Osawa Mikio is one of the first generation idols in Japan, debuting in the late 1980s as a member of Hikaru Genji, a boy band managed by Johnny & Associates.
In 1996, Osawa married actress Kitajima Mai, after she became pregnant with their first son, Osawa Reiji.
According to The Japan Times, years later, Osawa began to notice that he and his son were not alike in both appearance and personality. His growing suspicions led him to take a paternity test with the boy.
The test results were released in February 2013, eight years after Osawa and Kitajima had been divorced. Reiji was now 16 and living with his mother.
In 2014, Osawa first spoke out about the results at a press conference, admitting that the two were not father and son.
The male artist confided that not only because of his different appearance and personality, he did the test because he was worried about his son's health. Because his second child with his second wife was stillborn. He was worried that his eldest child would also inherit the genetic defect from him.
Osawa said he felt more shocked than angry because his ex-wife betrayed him. The male artist admitted that his ex-wife had previously gone through a difficult period that he did not fully understand.
Osawa expressed his desire to know who the child's biological father was. However, he said that it was up to Reiji to decide whether to find out or not.
As the years passed since the incident, netizens noticed that Reiji increasingly resembled Akira Akasaka, a former member of the group Hikaru Genji. There were even rumors that Reiji was actually Akira's son, but the male artist remained silent.
As for Osawa's ex-wife, she still insists that the paternity test results are wrong and that Reiji is actually Osawa's biological son.
Until now, the real story about Reiji's background remains a mystery, arousing the curiosity of many netizens in Japan.
