While many people spend time choosing shampoo, conditioner or hair Serum, most forget the foundation of their hair, the scalp. According to experts, regular scalp exfoliation helps improve hair health, promote blood circulation and reduce problems such as dandruff, itching, or hair loss.
Dr Veena Praveen, a dermatologist in India, shared on Health Shots: The scalp is where many hair follicles and oily glands are concentrated. When cells die, dirt and products build up, hair follicles become clogged, causing oil imbalance, itching, peeling and weak hair growth.
Cleansing the scalp, the first step for healthy hair
Just like exfoliating the face to remove the layer of old corneas, exfoliating the scalp helps to deeply cleanse, remove impurities, stimulate blood circulation under the skin. Thanks to that, hair follicles are better nourished, making hair thicker, shinier and softer.
According to Dr. Praveen, periodic exfoliation also helps increase the absorption efficiency of hair care products. When the scalp is clean, serum or conditioner will penetrate more easily, bringing more obvious care results, she said.
Choose the right scalp type
For normal scalp, just gently exfoliate once a week. Oily scalp should be cleaned more often to remove the buildup of sebum. People with dry or sensitive scalp should choose a mild soothing product that contains moisturizing ingredients or natural extracts such as oats and sugar.
The important thing is not to abuse. Excessive exfoliation can cause irritation or imbalance in the scalp," notes Dr Praveen. She recommends that people with serious problems such as dandruff and consult a dermatologist for specific instructions.
Exfoliating the scalp is not only a cleansing step, but also a regeneration process for hair. When the scalp is healthy, hair really has the opportunity to grow sustainably and smoothly in the long term.
