According to SCMP, the stepmother, surnamed Weng, married the girl's father in 2021. At that time, each of them had a son and a daughter.
At that time, she was just over 6 years old, the youngest child in the family, and was nicknamed Laosi (fourth child). Mrs. Weng said that the first time she saw her husband's daughter in 2020, she was extremely heartbroken because the girl was as skinny as "bean sprouts" and did not have good personal hygiene.
"She wore dirty clothes, had lice on her body, was always frowning and looked sad for her age," Weng said.
At that time, the girl and her brother lived with their grandparents in a village in central Henan province (China). The biological mother left when the two children were very young, and the father worked away from home all year round.
According to Ms. Weng, she learned to do housework from a young age, and sometimes even helped take care of her brother, two and a half years older than her. After remarrying, the stepmother decided to bring the two children to live with her and spend all her time taking care of them like her two biological children.
She bought her beautiful dresses, took Laosi to dance and violin lessons, and attended drawing and calligraphy classes with her. They traveled together as a family and developed a close relationship for nearly 4 years.
“Gradually, she became a confident child and always smiled. The first time she called me mom, I promised myself that I would do my best to protect her no matter how difficult life would be in the future," Ms. Weng said.
In June, Weng asked four children to write a wish list. While other children expected to be given books or toys, Laosi said she only wanted to sleep in the same bed as her mother for a week. That wish was fulfilled by the stepmother.
Weng and her husband, surnamed Guo, were in a relationship for more than 10 years before breaking up in 2011. They then both married other people. They met again in 2020 when Weng went to Henan, Guo happened to be the taxi driver. At that time, both were divorced and had children of their own.
They restarted their relationship and got married in 2021. Currently, all four children live harmoniously in a small house in Xijiang province ( China ), Weng's hometown.
In May, she gave birth to another baby boy, named Laowu (meaning fifth child).
