Recently, "drunken brother" Hung Huynh released his first MV called "Chang the gong mat". But immediately, many viewers commented that this MV has similarities with the MV "Standing Next to You" by famous Kpop idol Jungkook of BTS.
The incident initially exploded on the Vietnamese online community. Many opinions pointed out that the MV “Chang the om mat” also focused on the male character, focused on choreography and only had a few scenes interacting with the female character similar to the MV “Standing Next to You”. Some scenes in Hung Huynh’s MV were said to be staged similarly to Jungkook’s MV.
After that, even international fans of Jungkook and BTS also spoke up to accuse Hung Huynh of “copying” Jungkook’s music product. The keywords “Gemini Hung Huynh” and “Stop copying BTS” were pushed to trend on the X platform with tens of thousands of posts.
On the evening of December 17, Koreaboo news site posted an article about the incident, pointing out many similarities between the MV of the Vietnamese artist and the Kpop idol group BTS, including melody, style, ideas, and choreography.
In addition, the article also mentioned that music producer Kewtie posted a picture of Michael Jackson on social media for Hung Huynh's product, implying that Jungkook also copied the style of the "king of pop".
On the night of December 18, Hung Huynh apologized on his personal page and temporarily locked the MV on YouTube (to private mode).
Hung Huynh said: “I have read all the comments of the past few days, I really can not sleep and want to say a lot of things. I appreciate and understand that all the suggestions given to me are good things that I must definitely accept to improve in the future.
I feel so lucky to always have people there to show me what I'm not good at and what I need to work on.
Please give me more comments, I will listen to all with all my heart to do better in the future. I will do it, thank you all very much!
And after the recent incident, I want to send a sincere apology to everyone for unintentionally letting this information affect everyone.
Hung Huynh is always grateful and will always try to absorb and learn with the most progressive spirit to improve in the future."
However, Hung Huynh's apology was commented by many viewers as being too general, not knowing what he was apologizing for.
