On the evening of December 21, Road Management Area 3 under the Vietnam Road Administration confirmed that after 6 days of repairing the landslide, Khanh Le Pass has ensured safety for vehicles participating in traffic.
According to the plan, at 7:00 a.m. this morning (December 22), vehicles will be allowed to move through Khanh Le Pass on National Highway 27C.
The landslide section at Km43+300 with a length of 300m still has to be opened to traffic in one lane. At this location, the authorities will install warning systems, barriers, and assign guards to regulate the flow of vehicles one by one.
One thing that traffic participants need to pay attention to is that the weather in the Khanh Le Pass area is still erratic, with dense fog limiting visibility. Authorities have assessed that the road will need to be closed to traffic from 5:00 p.m. the previous day to 7:00 a.m. the following day.
On December 15, heavy rain caused serious landslides in many locations on Khanh Le Pass. At that time, dozens of vehicles and hundreds of tourists were stuck on the pass between landslides.
After the authorities of Lam Dong and Khanh Hoa provinces organized the rescue of tourists, they quickly started to break rocks and clear the road to clear traffic on Khanh Le pass.
However, the repair work encountered many difficulties because a large amount of rock and soil spilled onto the road. The authorities even used explosives to destroy the giant rocks.
Determining the seriousness of the incident, Road Management Area III proposed declaring a natural disaster emergency on National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass.
On the morning of December 21, Khanh Hoa province leaders also awarded certificates of merit to four outstanding collectives in rescue, disaster relief, and disaster response work in the Khanh Le pass area.
