On December 2, Kakao Entertainment announced that IU and Byeon Woo Seok have been cast as the leads in the upcoming MBC drama “Wife of a 21st Century Prince.”
"Wife of a 21st Century Prince" is a romance drama set in an alternate version of Korea under a constitutional monarchy.
The drama will tell the love story of Sung Hee Joo, a chaebol heiress who has everything but is only a commoner, and Lee Ahn, a prince who has nothing but his status as the king's son.
IU will play Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of the family that owns the largest conglomerate in Korea. Born with outstanding beauty, intelligence and a fierce competitive spirit, Hee Joo has always enjoyed every advantage. But when her commoner status unexpectedly becomes a barrier to her perfect life, she becomes entangled in a relationship with Prince Lee Ahn.
Byeon Woo Seok will play Lee Ahn, a prince who has nothing but royal status because he was born the second son of the king. After hiding his identity his entire life, Lee Ahn begins to undergo a major change when he meets Sung Hee Joo.
“Wife of a 21st Century Prince” is scheduled to air in the second half of 2025. It is the winning work of the MBC drama script writing competition, and the production is being handled by MBC and Kakao Entertainment.
