Extra tutoring for 9 weak children
In recent days, public opinion has been very concerned after the news that teacher Nguyen Thi T - a first grade teacher at Tran Phu Primary School, Ha Tinh City - was considered for disciplinary action and was proposed to be transferred to a difficult area due to violating the rules of teaching extra classes at home.
Most opinions say that extra tutoring comes from the needs of parents and students because some children do not understand what they learn at school, so parents ask teachers to teach them extra lessons to supplement their knowledge and keep up with their friends. Therefore, teachers should not be considered and disciplined so severely.
On December 15, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi T said that because some children were weak in their studies, their parents asked her to tutor them to supplement their knowledge, so she tutored 9 children.
The incident was discovered and the school asked her to report it. She later admitted that her tutoring was wrong. However, she has not received any disciplinary action.
Regarding the information that the school is considering disciplinary action and the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh City has proposed a job transfer, Ms. T said that she had never been discovered teaching extra classes or given a warning before.
"This is the first time I have violated the law, so I really hope that the school and the Department of Education of Ha Tinh City will consider giving me a warning and let me learn from my experience. Disciplinary action, reprimand, and suggestion of transfer are too harsh," Ms. T shared.
According to Ms. T, if there was a request for transfer, it is unclear what the regulations were based on. Her teaching extra classes was wrong, but it was also due to the request of parents and the concern that some weak children would affect the quality of the class, so she taught extra classes, but the motivation to earn income from teaching 9 children was not much.
Careful study for handling
Ms. Nguyen Thi Nu - Principal of Tran Phu Primary School - said that Ms. Nguyen Thi T did teach extra classes, and Ms. T had reported it.
However, up to this point, the school has not yet held a disciplinary meeting and has not issued any disciplinary decision against Ms. T.
“We have organized a meeting to remind teachers about not being allowed to teach extra classes, but up to this point, no disciplinary decision has been issued for Ms. T. This is also her first violation, so if we want to discipline her, we have to consider, weigh, and research carefully before holding a council meeting and voting to come up with an appropriate form of handling,” Ms. Nu shared.
A leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh City said that the viewpoint of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh City is to handle the violation of Ms. T, a teacher at Tran Phu Primary School, when teaching extra classes according to regulations to propagate and deter. However, the handling is also in the spirit of lifting high and hitting lightly.
The leader of the Ha Tinh City Labor Federation also said that he had received information that a teacher at Tran Phu Primary School who taught extra classes was being considered for disciplinary action and was also proposed to be transferred to another job.
Immediately after receiving the information, a representative of the Ha Tinh City Labor Federation discussed with the Chairman of the Tran Phu Primary School Union to grasp the specific information.
After that, the unit will discuss with the Principal of Tran Phu Primary School and the leaders of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh City to consider and propose a suitable and reasonable disciplinary action against teacher T.
