On August 3, Chinese media simultaneously reported that veteran artist Chu Long Quang had passed away after a period of serious illness.
His passing left a regret in the hearts of fans, especially those who once loved the role of Nhu Lai Buddha in the 1986 version of Journey to the West.
On Weibo, actor Luc Tieu Linh Dong, played by Ton Ngo Khong, expressed: "A Nhu Lai Buddha is immortal in the hearts of the audience. Longstanding masters of stage, film and television arts".
Artist Chu Long Quang was born in 1939 in Tay An and soon showed his passion for acting. After graduating from Lan Chau Academy of Arts, he was assigned to the Railway Corps Art Troupe, from which he officially entered the artistic path.
In 1965, the main role in the TV series "Tunnel War" was a turning point in Chu Long Quang's career. This was also the opportunity that helped him meet his partner - actress Ngo Hue Phuong.
After getting married in 1967, she retired to the backstage to take care of her family, creating conditions for him to focus on developing his career.
Chu Long Quang's biggest milestone was when he was chosen to play the role of Nhu Lai Buddha in the 1986 version of "Tay Du Ky".
His appearance, charisma and static acting style have made this role a classic image on Chinese screens in particular and throughout Asia in general.
After that, he continued to appear as the Buddha in many other works such as "Ngo Thua An and Tay Du Ky", "Te Thien Lac", "Tan Bach Nuong Tu Truyen Ky"...
Despite his old age, artist Chu Long Quang still maintains his passion for acting. In June 2025, he appeared at a public event and also for the last time before quietly leaving the stage and screen.
His passing was a great loss for Chinese art. He left a valuable legacy through dozens of roles and a exemplary personality, persistent in his profession.
