Thailand denies rumors of attacking Cambodia on the night of August 3

Thailand criticized Cambodia for spreading false rumors about the master plan for the attack on the night of August 3 after Hun Sen issued a warning.

The Nation reported that the Spokesperson of the Royal Thai Army denied rumors of a plan to attack Cambodia on the night of August 3, and clarified that no evacuation orders had been issued for the Surin people.

Major General Winthai Suvaree, Spokesperson of the Thai Army, denied rumors circulating on social media after receiving information that Cambodian Senate President Samdech Hun Sen shared a post by a Cambodian Defense Ministry Spokesperson, saying that the Thai Royal Army had ordered the evacuation of people in Surin province that night to prepare to attack Cambodia before a meeting of the Joint Border Commission (GBC).

A Thai military spokesman confirmed that the news was untrue. There are currently no emergency evacuation orders for the Surin people. Moreover, according to Major General Winthai Suvaree, the previous statements of the Cambodian Defense Spokesperson lacked confidence.

The Royal Thai Army affirmed that it will continue to strictly comply with the ceasefire agreement but is still ready to respond to unexpected situations arising from Cambodia's violations of the agreement, including increasing personnel and military equipment in the area.

Meanwhile, the Khmer Times reported that President of the Cambodian Senate Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that there is a high possibility that the Thai army will launch a military attack on Cambodia on the night of August 3, citing the announcement of the Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson.

In this situation, Senate Chairman Samdech Techo said he would not be able to chair the Senate session scheduled to take place on the morning of August 4. Regardless of whether the fighting broke out or not, he will still be on duty 24/7 in the general military command.

In a previously published press release, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense Spokesperson said that at 10:49 a.m. on August 3, they received reliable information that the Thai army, in coordination with the Thai government, had instructed the remaining civilians in the border area of Surin province to evacuate before tonight.

Citing similar intelligence sources, the Spokesperson added that the Thai military plans to launch strikes along the border, starting from Tamone Thom Temple, Ta Krabey Temple, Preah Vihear Temple, to the Anseh area, and warned that the attack could begin "in the near future" - just days before the General Border Commission (GBC) Extraordinary Session scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on August 7.

As of 8:40 p.m. on August 3, the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense said that the situation at the front line had stabilized, but Cambodian forces were still in a state of high alert.

Cambodia insists it strictly complies with the ceasefire agreed in Kuala Lumpur on July 28, 2025.
