VNA reported that on August 3, a group of ASEAN monitoring experts began a two-week round of monitoring in areas affected by conflicts along the border between Thailand and Cambodia.
Cambodia News Agency (AKP) quoted a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, Ms. Maly Socheata, as saying that the interim monitoring team of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has begun the monitoring since August 3.
Speaking at a press conference on the morning of August 3 local time, spokesperson Maly Socheata said that the group of observers included defense deputies and representatives from 7 ASEAN member countries including Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.
The group will carry out a two-week mission to monitor the full implementation of all provisions of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand, Socheata said.
Ms. Socheata emphasized: "The participation of member countries demonstrates the common desire to ensure the successful and sustainable implementation of the ceasefire agreement, in order to bring peace, stability, cooperation and development for the benefit of the people of the two countries".
Leading the above observers is the Military attache of Malaysia, which currently serves as ASEAN Chair in 2025.
