Resident Playbook is a sequel to the hit series Hospital Playlist, about boarding doctors at Yulje Hospital, who go through the process of denial, maturity and acceptance in their journey to become their doctors.
Jung Joon Won plays the role of 4th year obstetrician and gynecologist Goo Do Won, a young man who has a romantic relationship with resident doctor Oh Yi Young (played by Go one Jung). The lovely performance and contrasting personalities of this couple have won the hearts of many audiences.
The actor shared: "I didn't expect the Oh-Goo (Oh Yi Young and Goo Do Won) couple to be so popular. I think the story will mainly focus on the maturity of the residents. So I could not imagine that our relationship would be of interest to the audience.
Jung Joon Won admitted that he was initially worried when he accepted the role and knew Go Youn Jung was his co-star.
"I wonder if I can convince viewers. Because Won is portrayed as a figure that seems to only exist in reality, he is a perfect man. But I think, if I do well, I can make it believeable.
The 37-year-old actor is also trying to narrow the age gap with Go Youn Jung (29 years old). He tried to act like a friend to Go one Jung and other actors in the film crew, to ensure that no one felt uncomfortable.
Thanks to the popularity of the film, Jung Joon Won has a significant increase in recognition and personal reputation. His Instagram followers have increased from 3,000 before the drama aired to 460,000 followers so far.
